Neurotoxin Injections

Revive your look with wrinkle-smoothing neurotoxin injections like botox & dysport

What are Neurotoxins?

Neurotoxins are used cosmetically to temporarily paralyze the facial muscles to remove and prevent wrinkles. The most common areas of treatment include the forehead, brow area (“elevens”), and crows feet. This product is also used to address excessive sweating in the underarms, hands, and feet, as well as facial slimming on a wide jaw. At plumpitupp our neurotoxin products of choice are Botox® and Dysport®.

Appointments should be made every 3-4 months to maintain neurotoxin results.

Treatment Areas

Most areas on the face can be treated at plumpitupp! Below are some common treatment areas with Botox® & Dysport®:

  • Forehead - to smooth the horizontal lines visible when the eyebrows are raised (or at rest).

  • Between the Eyebrows - to minimize the beloved ‘angry face’ look.

  • Crows Feet around Eyes - to smooth out the lines around the eyes that show when smiling, laughing, and talking.

  • Bunny Lines on Nose - the lines that appear on the nose when the face is scrunched up.

  • Chin Dimpling - to smooth out the ‘orange peel’ chin that shows when making a kiss face or exaggerated sad face.

  • Smokers/Lipstick Lines - pesky lip lines around the mouth not always caused from smoking.

  • Neck Bands (Nefertiti neck lift) - to lift the jowls and show a smoother neck when straining.

  • Wide Jaw - to slim the face creating a more angular appearance and less boxy look.

  • Underarms, Palms, & Feet - to minimize excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis) not necessarily related to heat or exercise.

Botox vs Dysport

Botox® and Dysport® are both brands of neurotoxins approved in Canada. Botox® has been the pioneer of botulinum toxin treatments, being around the longest. It comes with a higher price point and a longer time of onset at 10-14 days. Dysport® has been used for decades with a more affordable price and a quicker onset time of 7-10 days. Nurse Reeya’s personal favourite is Dysport®, however individuals that have an anaphylactic milk allergy cannot use this product.

The perfect neurotoxin candidate is someone who desires improved facial appearance and diminished wrinkles without having to undergo surgery. There are many concerns that can be addressed in a botulinum toxin appointment such as forehead wrinkles, lines between the eyebrows, nasal lines, wide jaws, neck bands, and crows feet around the eyes.

Older clientele may wish to minimize existing wrinkles, while younger clientele usually desire prevention of wrinkles. Both age categories benefit from facial slimming with Botox® & Dysport®.

Candidacy, Safety & Side Effects

Safety is the most important factor at plumpitupp. Although most clients are Botox® & Dysport® candidates, it is important to not receive injections if you:

  • Are currently treating an active infection with antibiotics.

  • Have an anaphylaxis allergic to cow’s milk (may receive Botox® only).

  • Are prone to bleeding or have a bleeding disorder.

  • Have an active skin lesion in or around the area(s) being treated.

  • Are currently pregnant or breast feeding.

Please refrain from booking a Botox® & Dysport® appointment if you have any of the above. For further clarification, you can always book a free in person or virtual consultation with Nurse Reeya here .

Results, Longevity & Side Effects

Botox® and Dysport® treatments meant to last 3-4 months. However, due to everyone’s individual anatomy, some clients find themselves returning up to 6 months after their initial injection to receive another treatment.

Botox® and Dysport® are best maintained in a healthy and well hydrated individual. Regularly drinking water, avoiding long term compression on your face, and avoiding exaggerated facial expressions will help keep the Botox® and Dysport® lasting a bit longer. Follow up Botox® and Dysport® appointments are advised within the 3-4 month mark for most clients.

Swelling, bruising, redness, and slight tenderness are all normal side effects following your Botox® and Dysport® injections. These symptoms usually resolve within a few days, however it is encouraged to book your Botox® and Dysport® injection appointment at least 5 days before any special occasion. Although rare, the risk of asymmetry or a drooping eye lid/brow is always present in any Botox® and Dysport® treatment. If you experience one of these side effects, you can contact Nurse Reeya directly. Although some side effects cannot be corrected, no treatment is permanent and the side effects tend to dissipate after 4 weeks.

Frequently Asked Questions

All you need to know about your treatment so that you feel prepared for your visit. If you have any further questions don’t hesitate to contact us.

  • At your appointment, Nurse Reeya will go over your natural anatomy and desired goals. She will explain the entire treatment to you. This includes product choice, your goals, potential side effects, and aftercare. You can expect to have your picture taken to upload into your medical chart. You will be asked to disclose your medical history, current medications, and allergies. After your Botox® & Dysport® treatment is complete you will be reminded of your after care. Your total time at the clinic will vary from 20-50 minutes.

Botox® and Dysport® treatment results are not immediate. It will take up to 14 days to see your treatment results.

  • Before your appointment, there are a few things you can do:

    • Arrive without makeup - Nurse Reeya is better able to assess your natural facial anatomy and this lowers your risk of infection.

    • Avoid blood thinning products such as Aspirin, Advil, alcohol, and smoking (marijuana & tobacco).

    • Eat before arriving to ensure you have lots of energy!

    • Bring along a clean (never used) mask to use after your appointment.

  • Depending on the area of the face treated, you may experience some swelling. Anticipate the majority of your swelling to last for up to 7 days after your injectable treatment. You should also expect some bruising, redness, and mild tenderness following the treatment. After 24 hours you are able to return to most activities, however full results will be seen in 14 days.

  • Fortunately, most clients are 100% satisfied with their Botox® and Dysport® results after treatment. Unfortunately, for those who may not like their results the only way to rid of them is with time. All Botox® and Dysport® results will diminish by 3-6 months after the initial injection.
